7 Days Baliem Valley Trekking & Festival (August 5th – 11th’ 2017)

Above powerful Baliem river, on the trekking there are several extreme suspension bridge has to be crossed. All the time we have a wonderful view over the river and the narrow valley. We usually in the  afternoon we reach the villages where we will have our lunch surrounded by beautiful landscape. This trek offers unique photo opportunities. We will overnight at guest houses or local people houses of Dani Tribe. At the end of trek, you will view The Baliem Valley Festival.

Outline Itinerary
You may arrive in Papua by today latest at 07:00 am but very recommended to be arrive one day earlier in Papua at Sentani Airport (Friday, August 4th). Meet our team at Sentani Airport or we will pick you up at your accommodation in Sentani Area and drop you to the Airport for the flight depart at 10:30 am to Wamena. Meet with other people of Group in the Airport.   (Luggage allowed for this flight is 10kg only per passenger + 7 kilos in cabin, as you can leave your unnecessary baggage in Jayapura with us before leaving. (Please note: the flights are delayed very often due bad weather, technical problem, operational of flight). Upon arrival at Wamena airport, by minibus directly to Sogokmo or Yetni river is direction to Southern Baliem Valley.  From here  where the trekking begins with all the porters to reach Kurima in approx 2 hours up and down the little hills.  Lunchboxes are provided. Late afternoon we will arrive at Kilise village, dinner will be  provided by cook and overnight stay at Dani Typical Guest house. (Walk approx.2-3 hours).
Hike down in approx 1 hour and crossing the  suspension bridge over Baliem River  through the beautiful country side and Dani villages to Ugem village. You will encounter and greeted by the Dani people who work in their steep sweet potato garden. lunchboxes are provided. From suspended  bridge we still hike up in 3 hours and will arrive in the village of Ugem, accommodation at local guest house. our guide will decide where we stay upon arrival in the villages, stay at local houses or guest house. Dinner will be prepared by our cook.  (Walk approx. 5-6hours).
Today, we hike down and  the trail is steep and could be very slippery when it is in rainy season.  After that the tour goes on through Dani settlements with terraced fields and wild groves of sugar cane. All the time we have a wonderful view over the river and the narrow valley. In the early afternoon we reach the church of Seima where we will have our lunch surrounded by beautiful landscape.
Before we reach Kurima another suspension bridge has to be crossed. This trek offers unique photo opportunities. Afternoon arrive in Yetni then catch the car for drive back to town.  The rest of the day is free to relax at better accommodation – a small but enjoyable return to the simpler things in life. dinner will be on your account (Walk approx. 5-6 hours)
In the morning we drive up to Jiwika in the central Baliem Valley. Our one hour trek begins at the base of the mountain and ascends 300 meters through a beautiful rainforest, reaching the traditional salt spring of a Dani clan. Clothed in their traditional costumes, the native inhabitants will demonstrate the old techniques of the salt production. Following the demonstration, we will have our lunch on the mountains base then walk down to a Kurulu hamlet, where a very old mummy of the famous Dugum clan is proudly presented for your viewing. Afterwards the women show us how they brought brine is processed. In the vicinity we will see more picturesque hamlets. Everywhere the friendly natives offer their arts and crafts, weapons and curiosities for our inspection. Late afternoon back to the town and stop at Traditional market.  Lunch in Box is provided and dinner will be on your account. . (walk in approx 1-2 hours)
After breakfast, we will drive up to Napua nearby Military post for overview of Baliem Valley, it will be good for photography. Way back down and  we will stop to visit Baliem Valley Festival.
Baliem Valley Festival – As indicated in the Calender that today is a for you to enjoy the Baliem Valley  Festival. (entrance fee to ther festival have included) We are with you all day to ensure you  understand what is going on and enjoy every minute of this unique  tribal festival. Spend the day at the Festival site and participate in various  activities of the Festival. The Baliem Valley Cultural Festival is a  very rare chance to witness clans from different indigenous tribes  displaying their culture and skills in tribal warfare, dance and  music. It is a truly unforgettable experience and a real once in a  lifetime opportunity. Lunch boxes will be provided in the festival place.
