Baliem Valley Festival & Trekking 7 days, August 5th – 11th’ 2018

Above powerful Baliem river, on the trekking there are several extreme suspension bridge has to be crossed. All the time we have a wonderful view over the river and the narrow valley. We usually in the  afternoon we reach the villages where we will have our lunch surrounded by beautiful landscape. This trek offers unique photo opportunities. We will overnight at guest houses or local people houses of Dani Tribe. At the end of trek, you will view The Baliem Valley Festival.

Outline Itinerary
SUNDAY, AUGUST 05th:
BY FLIGHT TO WAMENA – TREKKING (-/L/D)
You may arrive in Papua by today latest at 08:00 am but very recommended to be arrive one day earlier in Papua at Sentani Airport (Saturday, August 4th). Meet our team at Sentani Airport or we will pick you up at your accommodation in Sentani Area and drop you to the Airport for the flight depart at 10:30 am to Wamena. Meet with other people of Group in the Airport.   (Luggage allowed for this flight is 10kg only per passenger + 7 kilos in cabin, as you can leave your unnecessary baggage in Jayapura with us before leaving.
MONDAY, AUGUST 06th:
TREKKING  (B/L/D)
Hike down in approx 1 hour and crossing the  suspension bridge over Baliem River  through the beautiful country side and Dani villages to Ugem village. You will encounter and greeted by the Dani people who work in their steep sweet potato garden. lunchboxes are provided. From suspended  bridge we still hike up in 3 hours and will arrive in the village of Ugem, accommodation at local guest house. our guide will decide where we stay upon arrival in the villages, stay at local houses or guest house. Dinner will be prepared by our cook.  (Walk approx. 5-6 hours).
TUESDAY, AUGUST 07th:  
TREKKING –  RETURN TO WAMENA  (B/L/-)
Today, we hike down and  the trail is steep and could be very slippery when it is in rainy season.  After that the tour goes on through Dani settlements with terraced fields and wild groves of sugar cane. All the time we have a wonderful view over the river and the narrow valley. In the early afternoon we reach the church of Seima where we will have our lunch surrounded by beautiful landscape.

WEDNESDAY,  AUGUST 08th: 
SALT SPRING, MUMMY, TRADITIONAL HOUSES (B/L/-)
In the morning we drive up to Jiwika in the central Baliem Valley. We will have our lunch on the mountains base then walk down to a Kurulu hamlet, where a very old mummy of the famous Dugum clan is proudly presented for your viewing. In the vicinity we will see more picturesque hamlets. Everywhere the friendly natives offer their arts and crafts, weapons and curiosities for our inspection. Late afternoon back to the town and stop at Traditional market.  Lunch in Box is provided and dinner will be on your account. . (walk in approx 1-2 hours)
THURSDAY, AUGUST 09th:
BALIEM VALLEY FESTIVAL (B/L/-)
Spend the day at the Festival site and participate in various  activities of the Festival. The Baliem Valley Cultural Festival is a  very rare chance to witness clans from different indigenous tribes  displaying their culture and skills in tribal warfare, dance and  music. It is a truly unforgettable experience and a real once in a  lifetime opportunity. Lunch boxes will be provided in the festival place. Late afternoon drive back to Wamena and stay at Medium Accommodation. Dinner will be on your account.
FRIDAY, AUGUST 10th:
Still on the festival, After breakfast we will travel by chartered car to the location of the Baliem Valley festival (entrance fee to the festival is included). The place where they hold the ceremony changes from year to year.  The festival has many traditional activities. There is traditional Dani tribe dancing and singing. Also there is a mock battle to show you how they used to fight in the old days. And there are newer activities, like bow and arrow competitions. And even foreigners can get involved in this activity.
SATURDAY, AUGUST 11th:
This morning you will catch a morning flight to Jayapura by at 06:15am (our breakfast at hotel might not be ready). baggage allowed for this flight is only 10kg per  passenger. Direct connect flight to Sorong, Makasar, Jakarta or Denpasar.
